The Marble Falls High School boys golf team split into two squads to compete at the Burnet Invitational March 8.
“With lots of changes to both teams at the last minute, we only ended up having four players on each team,” head coach Ricky Blackington said.
The gold team shot a 362 led by Porter Vinson’s 85 and Kolton Pannell’s 87. Ryan Nolan shot a 94 and Ross Oelschleger finished with a 96.
The purple team scored a 418 with two Mustangs shooting new personal bests: Brady Trussell with a 94 and Ryan Valentine with a 96. Other team members included Tyler Belk with a 102 and Timothy Fogle with a 126. Trussell and Valentine also recorded their first tournament birdies.
“Props to (them),” Blackington said.
He added the golfers are competing, which is most of the battle as they continue to prepare for the District 24-4A tournament.
“Our guys continue to grow and get better in different areas,” the coach said. “It’s not always about the lowest scores. There are many other victories to celebrate like making smart decisions on the golf course, sticking to a game plan, (and) keeping your mindset strong. Our players are growing in so many ways and it’s a joy to see it happen. Sometimes we even get to see lower scores in the proces. I am proud of these guys.”
